Great Italian Workshops
This week we had two great Italian workshops at The Cooking Rooms, all the people who attended really got into the spirit of Italian food and eating.Although we had recipes prepared they were all told to use them only as guidelines and if they wanted to add or take away it was up to them and to cook for their own tastes, because as we always try to do at The Cooking Rooms they were going to sit down together and eat the fruits of the labour.
The menu was:
Ricotta & Spinach ravioli or tortellini
this was served with a garlic butter sauce
Scallopini of Pork
with a leek, mushroom and tomato sauce
served on baked polenta
Vanilla panna cotta
served with a compote of seasonal berries

Fresh egg pasta was made by everybody and we all had great fun using the pasta machines, when rolling out the pasta got thinner and longer ready to be stuffed with a spinach and ricotta filling seasoned with nutmeg and aged parmesan cheese.After being gently poached the pasta was tossed in garlic butter and some aged parmesan.

The small collops of pork fillet were gently sauteed in olive oil and served on top of a piece of baked polenta and coated with a simle tomato, leek and field mushroom sauce.

The set cream and milk panna cotta was flavoured with vanilla extract and served with a hot compote of seasonal strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries cooked with some sugar.
A beautiful dessert to finish the meal off with coffee.
Everybody left having enjoyed the sessions and we are hoping they take their new found skills and develop them at home, I'm sure some lucky people in Yorkshire will be enjoying home cooked Italian food in the near future.
The Cooking Rooms has classes for everybody planned on Italian Food so why not come along and not only learn new skills and extend your repertoire but have a good time and meet great like minded people.
